📚 Audio Glossary: What do these numbers mean?

Perceived Loudness

How loud a track feels to the human ear, distinct from raw volume. We optimize this using Fletcher-Munson curves to ensure impact at any playback level.

Loudness (LUFS)

Loudness Units Full Scale. The standard for measuring perceived loudness. Target: -14 LUFS for streaming.

True Peak (dBTP)

The absolute maximum level of the signal. Target: -1.0 dBTP to prevent clipping.

Dynamic Range (DR)

The difference between the quietest and loudest parts. Higher DR = more punch.

Headroom

The space between your highest peak and 0dB. Needed for mastering processing.

Noise Floor

The level of background noise (hiss, hum). Lower is better (below -60dB).

DC Offset

When waveform is not centered on the 0-line. Should be 0%.

Stereo Width

How "wide" the mix sounds. 100% is standard stereo, >100% is wide.

Phase Correlation

Measures mono compatibility. +1 is perfect, -1 is out of phase.
